How did I get here?

I have always loved dancing, in particular, the genres of Ballet & Contemporary. Music + movement is my meditation. While my body was able to create shapes well because of the physical facilities I had which were favorable in these genres, being bendy also comes with its challenges.

PAIN - I was no stranger to that. From shin splints, feeling like I was walking on glass, knee pain, neck strain.. the final straw was when I sprained my back and pulled my hamstring so badly that I could not walk. This was in university, and I remember that I literally had to be carried out of cars, and down/up any flight of stairs because I was in so much pain. While I eventually recovered, I also developed more stiffness as I stretched more, my ankles were always in pain though I had “good feet” for ballet. When I stopped dancing, I started to develop hip pain.

Every situation in life is a learning experience

After University I did try out working in the corporate world, on the side to keep my love for ballet, I also started teaching it. While I tried my hardest in those 5 years, I knew that it was not the life for me. Being unhappy and constantly stressed made me gain weight; I was perpetually puffy and could not recover from my workouts. This was also after years of having a poor relationship with food and my body (extreme dieting and exercise as a form of punishment).

When I left that behind, it was amazed by how my body transformed. I was no longer in pain, the puffiness was gone and my weight stabilised. I was happier and feeling fulfilled.

If we are learning everyday, then we are succeeding everyday

So how did I get here? I can’t explain how lucky I am to have mentors in my life guiding me. Taking the step to teach Pilates was a natural progression seeing that dance training alone is not enough to nurture the dancer.

While I have several areas of focus, the experiences I have had along with the blessings of entering this industry - I am passionate about teaching and helping others become better at moving their bodies so that they can enjoy the activities they do, for as long as they do!

And besides teaching…

(and running the academy) I enjoy reading, people watching at a café, and of course spending Lazy Sundays with the husband, lounging and catching up on our favourite Netflix/TV series.

Thank you for spending time with me here :)
